Two brothers have been charged in relation to the brutal death of teenager Alex Ioane at an out-of-control house party in Sydney’s southwest, bringing the total number of people before the courts to eight.

Campbelltown detectives arrested and charged Ingleburn brothers Mateaki Jeff and Suliasi Levula Taumalolo, 19 and 21, on Tuesday. The younger brother has been charged with the murder of Ioane, while the older brother has been charged with affray in relation to the fatal incident.

Police allege Alex Ioane, 18, was attacked by a pack of males for up to two minutes as he lay unconscious outside a Chester Rd home in Ingleburn last May.

Ioane had attended the party, advertised on Facebook as a ‘70th birthday’, with his girlfriend Lynn Lavea. Police allege witnesses saw a man kick Ioane from behind, striking just under the back of the head, which saw the victim fall to the ground.

Ioane was found by emergency services on the road with serious injuries and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Mateaki and Sulisai’s cousin Tafuna Taumalolo, and two minors, have also been charged with murder. Three women, including Tafuna’s sister Lute Taumalolo, Mateaki’s girlfriend Maree Lusio and a 15-year-old, have been charged with concealing a serious offence.

All eight people remain before the courts.

The Ingleburn brothers did not appear by videolink at Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday and did not apply for bail, which was formally refused.

Their defence lawyer Mark Rumore indicated to Magistrate Shane McAnulty a bail release application is likely to be lodged in coming days.

Police expect to make further arrests as part of the investigation.
