Global leaders in space technology will soon land on Camden’s doorstep as part of the 200,000 job boom promised in the next two decades.
The spoils of the astronomic job creation will be shared across Camden, Wollondilly and six other council areas, known as the Western Parkland City, which will centre around the under-construction Western Sydney Airport and Aerotropolis.
Western City and Aerotropolis Authority CEO Sam Sangster, speaking at a Camden Council and Camden Region Economic Taskforce breakfast, said he expected a “tsunami of jobs” to flow across the region as a result of corporate giants, such as Hitachi and DB Schenker, vowing to call Western Sydney home.
“We have been unabashedly been out on a global stage, seeking to bring some of the world’s biggest brands into western Sydney,” he said.
“Our job is to cement these people coming into western Sydney and then work with councils and people like the Camden Region Economic Taskforce … to provide (existing businesses) the opportunity to actually meet with the decision makers in those organisations to pitch their wares.”
American global aerospace and defence technology giant Northrop Grumman, British defence and aerospace company BAE Systems, and the Australian Space Agency have signed on as foundation partners for the aerotropolis.
Mr Sangster shut down any hope for a curfew on the future international airport, scheduled to open in 2026, vowing he would “not allow that to happen”.
The CEO also revealed the Aerotropolis, described as a ‘22nd century city’, will likely be rezoned for development in less than 12 months.
Camden Region Economic Taskforce chairwoman Adriana Care said the Aerotropolis was crucial to growing the area’s economy.
