A former police officer violated the trust of his partner’s daughters by using a hole in the bathroom door and a secret camera to record intimate videos of them.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victims, has pleaded guilty to six charges of intentionally recording intimate images without consent (domestic violence-related).

A further 20 counts of the same offence will also be considered on sentencing. The man recorded

At the time of his arrest in June 2022, the man was no longer a police officer. He was in a de facto relationship with a woman and lived with her and her children, two of whom were the victims of his heinous crimes, at homes in the Macarthur region.

On multiple occasions between March 2020 and January 2022, he recorded intimate videos of the daughters without their knowledge.

In 2018, the man began making sexualised comments towards one of the girls, aged about 18, saying, “If you were my age, I would date you” and “I know you sleep naked”.

The man cannot be named for legal reasons.

He also sent her a screenshot of a photo of herself that she had posted to Instagram with the comment, “Dam, who’s the sexy chick”.

Soon, the young woman intentionally tried to make herself appear uglier around the house to avoid such comments being made. In 2020, he told the other sister about a dream in which they had sex.

Court documents reveal on multiple occasions, the man would film the sisters through a hole in the door when they showered, with one of them being 17 when he captured the recordings.

On one occasion, he filmed the eldest sister while she was naked through a small gap between the blinds and the windows before she noticed someone filming her.

When the alarm was raised, the man “appeared surprised” before driving around the block with his partner under the guise of searching for the culprit. When the partner asked if it was him, he swore it wasn’t.

Then, in December 2021, the man bought and installed a camera inside the airconditioning vent of the older sister’s bedroom and pointed it directly at her bed.

Video recordings showed him checking his mobile phone to try and check the camera angle, and the device recorded the young woman in her bedroom on 19 occasions.

The violation of the family’s trust was revealed in January 2022 when one of the girls noticed a blue flash in the airconditioning duct in her bedroom ceiling.

She called her sister, and they tried to remove it but could not, so they called the police the next day, who located the device.

On Thursday, Director of Public Prosecutions representative Chris Allison told the court the sentencing hearing would need to be delayed as the defence had only submitted a “dense” bundle of material the night before.

Mr Allison said the material included several testimonials with psychiatric and psychologist reports that needed to be reviewed by the prosecution.

The matter will be heard before Judge William Fitzsimmons in November, where the two victims will deliver statements.

The man remains on bail and cannot leave his home unless in the company of a family member. He must also report to police daily and is banned from entering the Camden or Wollondilly local ocal government areas.
