A Bradbury family has been left with close to nothing, after a fire ravaged their home.
A fiery glow alerted quick-thinking neighbours, who evacuated Tim O'Brien, Monica Wojtisiak and their children Jayden, 6, and Anika, 4, in the hours before dawn on September 24.
Mr O’Brien said the fire engulfed the house in 10 minutes. “We woke up to our neighbours screaming,” he said.
“The back patio was on fire, so we quickly got the kids outside and with the weather being windy, the fire blew into the house. It all happened so fast.”
With car keys, wallets, phones and valuables all destroyed, Mr O’Brien said it has been chaotic putting life back together.
“I have had a sick feeling in my stomach all week. Although most things were badly damaged, we were able to retrieve a couple of sentimental objects,” he said.
A GoFundMe page has been created to help the family get back on their feet, with more than $5000 donated. Mr O’Brien said the family’s priority was to find a new rental home.
“It’s incredible the support we have received from people we don’t know,” he said. “When I think about all the nice things people are donating, I cry. It’s so emotional.”
