RESIDENTS are invited to buy a waratah and have a chat about mental health when Beautiful Minds sells its stunning blooms across the Macarthur region on Friday, October 20.
Beautiful Minds president Sandra McDonald said the annual fundraiser and awareness raiser was due to be held on Friday, October 6, but had to be postponed for two weeks because the waratah buds, which are bought from Victoria, had not yet bloomed.
“It’s been so cold down there while we have had balmy weather up here that the buds didn’t open yet,’’ Mrs McDonald said.
Beautiful Minds, which is part of One Door Mental Health, will be selling 3000 waratahs for $5 each to raise funds for the Gna Ka Lun adolescent mental health unit at Campbelltown Hospital. “We will have mental health workers on all stalls and if people have a problem, they can have a chat,’’ Mrs McDonald said.
“It’s important to put the spotlight on mental health because everybody knows somebody who will have a mental illness at some point in their lives.’’
Mrs McDonald also thanked St Johns Park Bowling Club for sponsoring the sale.
