INGLEBURN woman Rosemarie Kilcar has described the wonderful and incredible moment when she caught newborn baby Eliana Danial when mum Nevein went into a speedy three hour labour at home.

Mrs Kilcar, Ingleburn’s Rosie Ribbons Family Day Care educator, had arrived at the Danial family home in Minto to take boys Elijah, 2 ½, and Karrass, 5, to day care after mum Nevein had gone into labour early on the morning of Friday, February 9.

“I walked into the bedroom, Nevein was in labour and I saw the baby’s head was starting to show,’’ Mrs Kilcar said.

Dad Mena was on the phone with an ambulance paramedic.

“I didn’t have time to think,’’ Mrs Kilcar said.

“I ran over to Nevein and I caught the baby in my hands. It was lovely. Eliana came into the world in a flash.’’

Mrs Kilcar, a mother of three, said Eliana was silent in her arms at first and she remembered watching an episode of TV drama Grey’s Anatomy where a newborn baby’s back was rubbed to encourage the bub to make a sound.

“I rubbed Eliana’s back and she started crying, thank God,’’ she said.

“I couldn’t believe it. It was wonderful. I’m glad everything went smoothly. God was there that day and everything went really well.’’

Eliana was born a day before her due date and weighed 3.7kg at birth.

Mrs Danial had gone into labour at home at 3.15am on Friday, February 9, and Eliana was born at 6.15am.

The ambulance arrived soon after Eliana’s birth and she and her mum were taken to hospital for routine assessment, while Mrs Kilcar took boys Elijah and Karrass to family day care.

Mrs Danial, 30, said she was grateful to Mrs Kilcar for her amazing help during her third child Eliana’s birth.

Mrs Kilcar said it was not until later that night when she sat down at home with a friend and had two glasses of vodka that the incredible reality of what had happened that morning started to sink in.

“This experience is something I will not be forgetting,’’ she said.

Mrs Kilcar said the families were already firm friends and Eliana’s birth had made the bond even stronger.

“They are part of my family unit. They call my mum Nanna Sue and my dad Nonno,’’ she said.
