The man behind a berserk 24-hour crime spree which mirrored a Hollywood action blockbuster, including two shootings and a wild police pursuit all centering around his glamorous girlfriend, has pleaded guilty in Campbelltown Local Court.
A protective Ellias Khouri, 30, met with his partner’s 31-year-old ex-boyfriend at Yum Yums Traditonal Pizzas in Beverly Hills on August 29 last year over a unsettled $3500 debt between the former couple.
As soon as Khouri arrived, he somehow convinced the ex-boyfriend to give his two phones to the shop owner and hop in his car which drove into a nearby underground carpark.
While he interrogated the man on why he had been speaking to his girlfriend, Khouri removed a loaded revolver from the front of his pants and placed it on a table.
The panicked ex-boyfriend backed towards the fire exit before he bolted. Khouri shot the man in the hip as he reached the top of the stairs with the victim later collapsing on Hampden St before undergoing surgery at St George Hospital. The getaway car was later found in an Oran Park garage.
Khouri, who remained at-large, drove a blue Subaru WRX to Leppington about 7.30am the next morning and began to argue with his glamorous girlfriend, who fell to the ground as part of the struggle.
The Beverly Hills man then stomped on her until a good Samaritan neighbour walked over to and told him to stop.
Khouri responded by drawing a loaded revolver at the man and shot at his back as he ran back to his home.
Police were called and the Subaru was spotted by police on Camden Valley Way less than 10 minutes later, triggering a wild peak hour police chase with Khouri speeding through shopping centre carparks, swiping motorists’ side mirrors and even getting airborne over a speed bump at a Coles service station.
Police disbanded the pursuit for safety reasons with Khouri later dumping his car in Edmondson Park and hopping in the passenger seat of a friend’s ute.
The ute, spotted by police on Camden Valley Way shortly after, ignored a red light and collided with a Suzuki Swift. The female Suzuki driver suffered a fractured skull, brain haemorrhaging and was placed in a coma for a number of days.
Khouri made a final attempt to flee the wreckage but was arrested at the scene.
He has pleaded guilty to two counts of fire firearm likely to injure, assault, possess unauthorised pistol, police pursuit, negligent driving, drive while suspended and not give particulars to other driver.
The matter will be mentioned in Campbelltown District Court for sentence on December 6.
