YouTube stars Luke and Joel Erwin face court accused of air horn, feather duster pranks

Between them they have millions of views on YouTube for their so-called pranks filmed around Sydney. But the Erwin brothers’ videos landed them in court on Wednesday morning.

Two social media pranksters have appeared in court over a number of alleged public stunts including blasting a man in the ear with an air horn and tickling a women with a feather duster.

Campbelltown brothers Joel and Luke Erwin – appearing in court as Luke Deering – stopped for a selfie with a fan after their brief appearance on Wednesday morning.

Joel, 27, and Luke, 25, made their first visit to Downing Centre Local Court charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company and common assault.

Heavily-tattooed Luke’s YouTube channel has gained more than 550,000 views.

Brother Joel has more than 19.6 million views on his channel ‘Wezma”.

The charges they faced in court today relate to three incidents that police allege occurred between Wednesday, October 16 and Tuesday, October 22.

One man, 36, was allegedly walking on George St when Luke held an air horn held up to his left ear, while Joel filmed, about 1.45pm on October 16.

The incident caused a minor ear injury, which the man required medical treatment for.

The second alleged assault occurred about 1.40pm on Monday, October 21 October 2019 at Darling Harbour.

Police will allege the two men approached a 53-year-old woman sitting on a public bench, with Luke repeatedly touching her with a handheld feather duster, while his brother filmed the interaction.

Then on October 22, a 35-year-old woman was allegedly walking on Bathurst St when Joel began walking beside her.

The woman told police she heard a sneezing sound and felt water sprayed on her face, neck and shirt.

Joel is also alleged to have filmed this incident. A video titled “Sneezing on the Public” posted to Luke Erwin’s YouTube channel on October 23 – the day of the duo’s arrest – remains on the website.

Following an investigation, the duo attended Day St police station on October 23 where they were arrested and charged.

Both men were charged with common assault and assault in company causing actual bodily harm.

Luke Erwin was also charged with destroy or damage property, relating to a separate incident at Ingleburn in Sydney’s south west on Friday, October 11.

It is alleged he destroyed a 12 pack of eggs at Ingleburn Woolworths, according to court documents.

In court on Wednesday their matters were adjourned to November 27, when pleas are expected to be entered.
