Deejay Bartle: Claymore father has bail refused after allegedly procuring young teen for sex through Snapchat

A court heard the man played games of “truth or dare” over the app and talked to the girl for more than 30 minutes a night while at home with his fiancee.

What happens when you are charged with a crime?

A 23-year-old man broke down in tears as he was refused bail following allegations he procured a young girl for sex.

Deejay Reginald Bartle, of Claymore, faced Campbelltown Local Court via AVL on February 9, charged with procure child for unlawful sexual activity and possess child abuse material.

A sobbing Mr Bartle, who was represented by Legal Aid, applied for bail in the hopes of leaving custody but it was refused by Magistrate George Braton.

The court heard the 23-year-old father became involved with the teenager through the social media application Snapchat on January 26, before exchanging phone numbers and talking on the phone.

Magistrate Breton told the court Mr Bartle had played games of “truth or dare” over the app and talked to the young girl for more than 30 minutes a night while he was at the home he shared with his fiancee, who could be heard arguing in the background of the conversations.

He also has a child with the woman.

On January 30 the court heard Mr Bartle continued to talk to the teenager and engaged in sexually explicit conversations, telling the girl to “come and find out” what size his penis was.

He allegedly asked the girl for pictures knowing she was aged under 16, but she did not send any.

On February 1, the court heard Mr Bartle asked some people to approach the girl at her school and meet him nearby at a home where he attempted to kiss her but she pushed him away.

The teenager and Mr Bartle continued to talk and walked down to a park where he put his arms around her waist and “made her uncomfortable”, the court heard.

“She tried to walk away but Mr Bartle grabbed her on the arm and tried to kiss her,” Magistrate Breton told the court.

The girl immediately reported the incident at school.

The 23-year-old was arrested at a Claymore home on Monday with officers finding eight images of the girl in her bra and underwear on his phone, the court heard.

In refusing the application for bail Magistrate Breton noted the “allegations were serious” and Mr Bartle may “endanger the victim in the community or generally if released”.

A teary Mr Bartle broke down on the screen, yelling “oh f**k” when he realised he would be remaining behind bars.

“The reality is that it’s a strong prosecution case that you’re facing,” Magistrate Breton told him.

“These offences are serious and the courts’ concerns express it fairly clearly.”

Mr Bartle did not enter a plea and will return to court on March 23.

As a result of the offences, police are urging parents and guardians to speak with their children about staying safe online.
