Residents of a southwest Sydney suburb have woken to find someone had attempted to break into their cars in the early hours of the morning.

Blairmount resident Tanya Vassalli woke on Wednesday to find CCTV footage of a man attempting to break into her partner’s car as it was sitting in the driveway at 3.30am.

Ms Vassalli told the Macarthur Chronicle she and her partner have been living in the area for four years but had never experienced any crime.

“The man was approaching the house and the sensor light and cameras activated and shocked him,” Ms Vassalli said.

“He hides his face and then attempted to break into my partner’s car.”

Footage shows the man creeping up to the car and jumping in shock once the lights turn on before trying to get into the vehicle.

Having no luck the man walks away and moves onto Ms Vassalli’s next-door neighbours.

The Blairmount resident said the man walked the street and checked to see if any cars had been left unlocked.

She said she had “never seen such disgusting behaviour” within her community.

“We are lucky to be in such a close community that if anything happens we all look out for each other,” she said.

“This will now ensure that anyone attempting to do this will be caught.”

A report has been lodged with police.
