FEATURING a cast of 22, Campbelltown Theatre Group’s latest production, Rock of Ages, opens on Friday for a limited season.
Director Brad Gavin said rehearsals were going really well and he had no doubt the show would be a great success with audiences, especially those who love 1980s music.
“I saw the show on Broadway and what stuck out was the classic 1980s rock, like Bon Jovi. I love the music and it is cleverly intertwined with the story,’’ Gavin said.
The show is the Campbelltown resident’s second foray as a director.
In 2016, he directed Campbelltown Theatre Group’s production of Monty Python’s Spamalot.
“That show was awesome. We had a great crowd every night and the show was a financial and theatrical success,’’ he said.
Gavin said he hoped Rock of Ages would be another winner and he urged locals to attend. “I’m super confident the show will be a hit and anyone who loves ‘80s music should get down to see it,’’ he said.
Rock of Ages is set on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles in the 1980s and features the legendary club, the Bourbon Room.
It follows the journey of romantic leads Drew (played by Campbelltown’s Tom Glynn), who wants to be a rock star, and Sherrie (played by Castle Hill’s Emma Whiteley), who dreams of becoming a movie star. They want to make it big but life takes them in another direction.
