Camden Council is now investigating last week’s deadly dog attack at Harrington Park, where a nine-month-old toy cavoodle was savagely ragdolled to death by three large staffy-like dogs.

A council spokesman confirmed that “appropriate action”, in line with NSW Legislation, would be taken following an investigation by council rangers.

Under the Companion Animals Act, it is an offence for a dog to attack another animal with the responsible owner liable for a fine up to $11,000.

If the council establishes a dog attack was caused by an owner’s recklessness, the owner could face a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment and a fine of $22,000.

“On Thursday afternoon, council rangers responded to a dog attack in Harrington Park,” the council spokesman said.

“Three dogs, that had escaped from a residence in Harrington Park, attacked another dog being walked on the street.

“Council is currently investigating this incident. Following the investigation, the appropriate action will be taken in accordance with NSW legislation.

“Council reminds residents to ensure their dogs are secured within their premises and when being walked are on a lead at all times unless in a designated off-leash area.”

The investigation follows a savage attack on a nine-month-old toy cavoodle named Willow, which was rag-dolled to death by three killer staffy-like dogs on Governor Drive, Harrington Park about 1pm Thursday.

Willow the toy cavoodle’s owner Helen said she was petrified during the attack.

Willow’ owner Helen, who didn’t wish to share her last name, told the Chronicle how she was petrified as the killer dogs hurtled out from nowhere.

“I quickly picked up Willow to keep her safe, holding her up to my neck as the dogs kept jumping at me,” she said.

“I was petrified. They threw me down and that’s when they got her in her mouth and shook her around like a rag doll.”

The 44-year-old mum said her two daughters, aged 16 and 20, tried to save their beloved family member but it was too late.

“We lost our dog but we are lucky we didn’t lose our children,” Helen said.

Camden Police confirmed they attended the incident and have liaised with Camden Council rangers.

The investigation is ongoing.
