One Chipping Norton family is in mourning after witnessing their nine-month toy cavoodle being savagely rag-dolled to death by three staffy-like dogs who had escaped the confines of their Harrington Park home.
Willow the toy cavoodle, described as the family’s princess, had been taken on an excursion to Harrington Park for a lunchtime school holiday stroll when a dog-owners worst nightmare became reality.
Willow’s owner Helen, who didn’t wish to share her last name, said she was petrified as the killer dogs hurtled out from nowhere as she waited for her friend on Governor Drive.
“I quickly picked up Willow to keep her safe, holding her up to my neck as the dogs kept jumping at me,” she said.
“I was petrified. They threw me down and that’s when they got her in her mouth and shook her around like a rag doll.”
The 44-year-old mum said her two daughters, aged 16 and 20, bashed the attacking dogs in a final bid to save their beloved family member but it was too late.
“We lost our dog but we are lucky we didn’t lose our children,” Helen said.
“We were just catching up with friends. I never imagined it would end something like this.”
She was rescued from the three minute ordeal by a hero passer-by, who took her in their car and raced to the nearest vet with Willow.
The toy cavoodle was pronounced dead shortly after.
Helen was taken to Campbelltown Hospital where she was treated for shock and minor abrasions.
Camden Police confirmed they attended the deadly incident which took place about 12.50pm yesterday. They have liaised with Camden Council rangers who have since taken carriage of the investigation.
Camden Council was contacted for comment about 5pm today.
