Jason Christopher Spooner denies mystery $230,000 in car was crime related
EXCLUSIVE: A Bradbury man has pleaded not guilty to all charges over the $230,000 cash found in his car being crime related. He faced Picton Local Court today.
A Bradbury man found with more than $230,000 of cold, hard cash in his car on a wintry Wednesday morning has faced the courts for the first time today.
Jason Christopher Spooner, 45, appeared before Picton Local Court on the charges of dealing with the proceeds of crime greater than $100,000 and two counts of goods in custody.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Camden Police Area Command’s proactive crime team pulled over the Bradbury man on Hartley Rd, Smeaton Grange, about 10.40am on June 5.
Police said they spoke to Spooner and developed a reasonable suspicion to search the car.
The cash, totalling $230,095, was located in the car and police allege was from the proceeds of crime.
Court documents state Spooner was unable to explain to police why he had such a significant sum of cash.
The matter will return to Picton Local Court on August 13.
