INGLEBURN artist Esther Bolz is showing her striking work in the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney’s renowned Botanica exhibition, which is on display until Sunday, May 6.

Bolz, a natural history illustrator, is one of 59 artists from across Australia and beyond who have been chosen to take part in the prestigious exhibition, which shines the spotlight on the fascinating, complex and remarkable relationships between plants and animals.

Her watercolour painting with graphite depicts the herbert’s passionfruit (passiflora herbertiana).

“I chose it because it’s a native but it’s not so well known or illustrated,’’ Bolz said.

Her painting depicts the plant’s stunning flower, form and characteristics and includes a butterfly and caterpillar.

Curator Judy Dunstan said this year’s theme Symbiosis was interesting because the natural world was full of extraordinary relationships; from mutually beneficial partnerships to ‘parasitism’, which can have deadly results.
