ONE of the highest parks in Camden and with spectacular views of the Blue Mountains, Campbelltown and the sand dunes at Kurnell has opened for families and residents to enjoy.
The $5.5 million Hilltop Park was built by Macarthur Developments in its Emerald Hills subdivision.
Stage one of the park, which is located off Arkenstone Way, was officially opened by Camden Mayor Lara Symkowiak earlier this month.
Macarthur Developments general manager Stephen McMahon said the park featured westerly views across South Creek Valley to the Blue Mountains and easterly views across to Campbelltown, the Royal National Park and, on a good day, to the sand dunes at Kurnell.
“Hilltop Park is the best park in Camden, without a doubt,’’ he said.
Stage one includes a child-friendly and climbable public art installation, a board walk from which to enjoy the views and a barbecue shelter area.
“Over the next eight months we are building a fitness trail, playground and a dual bike and pedestrian path,’’ Mr McMahon said.
This section is expected to be opened to the public by April next year.
Mr McMahon said the centre piece of the park was a massive fig tree which was at least 100 years old.
“We speculate that fig tree could have been a seed dropped by a bird or it could have been planted by a caretaker who lived on the site and managed the water canal,’’ he said.
“That fig tree is loved by the community. A man recently proposed to his fiance on the ridge near the fig tree.
“On Valentine’s Day, our security guard found a couple asleep under the fig tree.’’
Mr McMahon said a bike and pedestrian track would link the park to South Creek, shops and schools in the Emerald Hills subdivision.
On Facebook, Camden Mayor Lara Symkowiak said Hilltop Park was well worth visiting and it offered a different type of park to most found in the local government area.
