Swimming ace Brendan Prasad captures nine golds in Fiji event

FOR Brendan Prasad, capturing a remarkable nine golds at the recent Fijian National Swimming Championships, is the stepping stone to more success.

The 13-year-old forgoes his sleep to start training for two hours from 5am before getting ready for his studies at Cecil High School.

According to his Harlee Elite swim squad head coach, Alex Clarke, Brendan is one tough youngster who can achieve a lot.

Brendan, this week’s Local Sports Star nominee, said he is now focusing on several competitions, including the state age short course, long course metropolitan, long course state age and open water.

“My best moment at the Fiji nationals was winning the 50m breastroke because I was coming behind and won it in a time of 36.88,” the Bonnyrigg teenager said.

“I have been swimming since I was three and I started to compete when I was seven.

“My main events are the 50m and 100m breastroke.

Brendan and his siblings, Renae, Brendan, Jaydan and Michelle, had a massive splash at the Fijian championships, bringing home 16 gold, seven silver and nine bronze medals.

“Brenadan has a heart of a lion and is a very tough kid, whose mentality and maturity is beyond his years,” his coach Clarke said.

“He has had some great moments this year and like his siblings, is well supported by his parents Ritesh and Neelam.”

Brendan trains at Revesby Workers Swim Club and the Max Parker and Roselands leisure and aquatic centres.
