RENAE Prasad is putting in the hard yards in her quest for state and national swimming titles, while having an eye on making the Fijian national team.
Renae, this week’s nominee for the Local Sports Star Award, came home with a bagful of medals from the recent Fiji Nationals Swimming Championships.
The 14-year-old Bonnyrigg swimmer won five gold, two silver and four bronze medals to emerge among the stars at the championships.
Her siblings Brendan, Jaydan and Michelle also won medals in Fiji. Their parents Ritesh and Neelam were born in Fiji and support their children’s swim ambitions.
”My major achievements was coming third in breaststroke when I was 11 and finishing in the top 10 for the metro championships in the 100m, backstroke and 400 IM last year,” Renae said.
“These achievements are both significant as we had moved clubs a couple months before and the results really showed.
“Fiji was also a major achievement as it was a different environment and the competitors were different.
“My best moment in Fiji was winning the 200 freestyle because it was an event that I hardly do.”
Renae’s pet event is 100m backstroke.
The Cecil Hills High School student trains 14 hours a week at Max Parker and Roselands Leisure and aquatic centres.
Renae also practices at Revesby Workers Swim Club whose head coach Alex Clark said she has a lot of potential.
“Renae is a very humble quiet achiever,” Clarke said.
“She raced very well in Fiji and our goal is for her to make the Fijian team while getting her to the state and national levels in Australia.”
