Despite both being considered among the best young karateka in Australia, there’s no rivalry between brothers Patrick and Jonathan Adji.

“Definitely not,” Patrick said. “Since we’re four years apart, it doesn’t even matter at this stage.”

Patrick, 15, has been competing in karate at the state and national level since 2012, while Jonathan, 11, is in his third year of representative competition.

The brothers insist there’s no rivalry between them.

Both had stellar performances at the Australian Karate Federation’s recent Australian Open.

Patrick came second in the cadets kata (choreographed movement) and third in the cadets kumite (sparring) divisions, while Jonathan finished first in the children 10-11 years kumite and second in the children 10-11 years kata.

Patrick and Jonathan Adji are the latest nominees for the Hornsby Advocate Local Sports Stars awards, which are on until August 31.
