ELISABETH Kidane can only go higher in her aerobic gymnastics field judging by her remarkable achievements so far.
The Cabramatta West teenager helped the Australian team finish ninth at the 2018 AER World Age Group Championships in Portugal in May and has been competing at the nationals for the past nine years.
Elisabeth, 15, is this week’s nominee for the Local Sports Star Award, showing dedication and training with Sydney West Gymsports six days a week as she bids to be the best in her category.
In 2016 the Westfield Sports High student did very well to finish fifth in the International Age Group 1 section at the Suzuki World Championships.
“My highlight this year was competing at World Championships in Portugal, it was a dream come true,” Elisabeth said.
“I feel that working within a team of six girls at World Championships this year taught me great sportsmanship, fairness and I had to be very dedicated to get to the World Championships.
“It was the best feeling I have ever felt to stand on that stage and compete against so many countries.
“I devote 13 hours a week to training while juggling a normal school program and also coaching younger athletes at the gym.”
Elisabeth was the junior elite international athlete of the year for aerobic gymnastics in 2014. “I donate my time whenever the gym is holding a Bunnings barbecue to raise money and I also help out at recreational competitions the gym holds twice a year,’ Elisabeth said.
