JACK Warren is honing his footballing skills after deciding to join his friend at the NPL powerhouse Sydney Olympic’s development squad three years ago.
This week’s nominee for the Local Sports Star’s Young Sporting Spirit Award is a passionate footballer whose idol is Argentine superstar Lionel Messi.
“My friend was going to try out for them and his mum asked if I wanted to try out too,” 10-year-old Jack said.
“We both ended up getting into the team and we’ve been lucky enough to play two years with them so far.
“I like football because it’s a fun game that involves teamwork.
“I play in SAP (Skills Acquisition Program) and we play against clubs from all around Sydney and some other parts of NSW.
“Over the year I would like to work on my shooting and passing.”
Jack, who is going for piano and singing lessons, enjoys cross country running and athletics. “I like watching rugby league, rugby union, cricket and love reading too,” Jack said.
He trains three days per week with Sydney Olympic, and plays every weekend.
When he’s not officially training, he’s at home practising his skills, said his mum Michelle.
Jack is also known to help up a teammate or opponent who has fallen during play.
