Keegan Bell isn’t just a star of the future- he’s a star now.

When it comes to the track, the 17-year-old from The Ponds is one of Australia’s best.

Keegan is a two-time state junior 400m champion, a state junior 200m champion, a two-time Combined High Schools 400m champion, a two-time 400m Australian All Schools champion and a double 400m Australian junior champion.

Despite his age, he also nearly secured a place at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games after making it to the final of the Commonwealth Games trials.

Keegan is ranked fourth in the world in the under-18 men’s 400m. Next month, he is hoping to secure a spot at the Youth Olympics with a victory at the Melanesian Oceania Championships.

Despite being one of the best in the world at the sport he loves, Keegan says he still gets nervous.

“Before I race I’m always nervous. “The thought always goes through my head that anyone could run a big time.”

He added that the best way for young athletes to succeed was to be persistent and always believe in yourself.

“Don’t give up. As long as you’re dedicated enough, you’ll succeed.”

Keegan is the latest nominee for the Rouse Hill Times Local Sports Stars award.

The awards are on until August 31. Prizes will be awarded to athletes aged 18 and under across four categories: Junior Sports Star Individual, Junior Sports Star Team, Young Sporting Spirit Individual and Young Sporting Spirit Team. There is also an open-age Service To Sport category.
