A PASSION for softball passed down from mother to son has morphed into a genuine love of the game for Dru Senituli.

“My mum used to play when she was younger and has finally started playing again,” the 11 year old from Greystanes said.

“She saw softball club Greystanes Giants advertising registration and needing players, so she signed me up. I haven’t looked back.”

Dru’s natural talent for the sport shone through, earning him a spot in the Cumberland Nepean Softball Association’s representative squad.

He has also selected into a NSW team that will tour Japan in August.

“NSW selectors put us through our paces to assess our knowledge, skills and game play,” Dru said. “No words can explain my excitement of being selected and being given the opportunity to travel to Japan.

“The experience in itself will help me gain further skills, experience and knowledge of the game.”

Dru is the latest nominee for the Parramatta Advertiser Local Sports Stars award.

The awards are on until August 31. Prizes will be awarded to athletes aged 18 and under across four categories: Junior Sports Star Individual, Junior Sports Star Team, Young Sporting Spirit Individual and Young Sporting Spirit Team. There is also a Service To Sport category.
