VU Pham has landed a job.
The Liverpool Leader shared Mr Pham’s plight to secure a job last month.
Not only did the newsroom receive calls and emails, but The Potter’s House pastor Tony Hoang, had a handful of offers for Mr Pham too.
Having spent the best part of two decades in jail, the 35-year-old was keen to make a fresh start. He connected with Mr Hoang.
“It’s great to know there are people out there willing to help,” Mr Hoang said.
It’s been six months since Mr Pham was released.
And he’s spent his time helping the church open its new site later this month.
But a Blacktown-based plumping supply warehouse has offered Mr Pham a Monday to Friday gig.
“I’ve been busy helping with the church. It’s like that work has been getting me ready for this job,” Mr Pham said. “I’m so grateful for the chance to work, but I have a vision.
“I want to do what Tony does, and spread the gospel.”
Mr Pham said he would love to one day return to the juvenile system and help youngsters.
“I just want to help people,” he said. “And I want to break the cycle.”
Mr Pham said he had turned his life around.
“I feel like I’ve been waiting at the train platform for 19 years and I’ve finally got on the express train,” he said.
