A southwest Sydney man is facing 20 charges after allegedly distributing more than 100 child abuse files and dealing drugs.

Shane William Boylan, 53, is accused of sharing 112 files of child abuse material over six days in 2017 while in Caringbah.

The Lurnea man has also been hit with charges of supplying 13 grams of methamphetamine, 13 counts of failing to comply with reporting obligations under the Child Protection (Offenders Registration) Act, and three counts of breaching orders banning him from using encrypted messaging apps.

Mr Boylan’s case was mentioned in Campbelltown Local Court, where Senior Federal Prosecutor for the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) Melanie Tam requested for more time to account for further police investigations.

Ms Tam told the court that NSW Police were investigating additional “state charges”, suggesting Mr Boylan could face increased charges which would impact the CDPP’s approach to the case.

Magistrate Peter Thompson granted the adjournment until February to allow authorities to finalise their investigations.

Boylan will remain in custody and appear in court via video link next month.
