Thirteen businesses in Liverpool have been named and shamed by the NSW Food Authority for health breaches in the past 12 months.

The state’s food safety regulator recorded 25 penalty notices handed to local pizza joints, grocers, restaurants and cafes across the Liverpool local government area, with fines totalling $19,580 in the year to June 25, 2019, when the register was last updated.

Many of the notices related to hygiene practices.

Little Caesars Pizza in Casula was hit with $6160 in fines in that period after the food authority issued seven penalty notices on four separate occasions.

The fines related to hygiene breaches, with the business receiving four fines for failing to maintain a supply of soap at or near each hand washing facility, one for failing to maintain a supply of single use towels at or near each hand washing facility and another for failing to maintain all fixtures, fittings and equipment to the required standard of cleanliness.

It was also issued a penalty notice for failing to “use a process step that is reasonably known to achieve the microbiological safety of the food” when processing food, according to the NSW Food Authority’s register.

Europe Supermarket, on Northumberland St in Liverpool, is also on the list.

In February, it was handed three fines, each $440, for failing to maintain food premises to the required standard of cleanliness, failing to take all practicable measures to protect the food from the likelihood of contamination when displaying food, and not taking all practicable measures to eradicate and prevent pests.

Crust Pizza in Liverpool was fined $1760 for two violations — failing to maintain a supply of warm running water, as well as single use towels, at or near each hand washing facility.

Metro Petroleum at Warwick Farm was penalised with two $880 fines for selling “food labelled in contravention to Food Standards Code”.
