A cannabis-smoking 25-year-old has confessed to possessing a homemade gun, after a compound bow and swords were found inside his southwest Sydney home, despite an order by the NSW Police Commissioner for the man not to possess any weapons.

Police officers raided the Chipping Norton home of Aaron Perks-Alderton on March 14 last year, seizing an arsenal of weapons from the property.

The stockpile was found inside the bedroom of Joleen Doyle, who also lived at the home, who told police she had taken the weapons out of Perks-Alderton’s bedroom due to “safety concerns”, the agreed facts stated.

The 25-year-old man had shown her the homemade gun only two days earlier. About 380g of cannabis was also found in the 25-year-old’s room.

In June 2017 Perks-Alderton was served with a firearms prohibition order and weapons prohibition order, which meant police could search his home at anytime without a warrant.

When arrested, he told police officers he didn’t actually live at the address but it was his mate’s aunty’s house.

However, he said he stored “stuff” at the home, had packages sent there and occasionally slept in the lounge room.

Appearing by videolink in Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday, Perks-Alderton pleaded guilty to the possession of a prohibited firearm while subject to a firearm prohibition order, which carries a maximum penalty of 14 years jail.

The matter will be mentioned in Parramatta District Court next month.
