A $4 million dollar plan to redevelop Allcare Medical Centre in Hammondville has been approved.
The existing structures at 2-6 Walder Rd and 192-194 Heathcote Rd will be demolished and replaced with a single-storey allied health facility with 40 at-grade carparking spaces.
Planning documents reveal the project will create 11 new jobs in health and professional services, with the new medical centre to feature 16 consultation rooms and a pathology lab.
It will also feature reception space, a waiting area, a children’s zone and treatment rooms.
The plans, lodged by developer Mammoth Projects, also included a proposed internal pharmacy, but council documents show “no approval is given or implied” for the pharmacy component of the plans as part of the development consent.
The proposal was given the green light by a local planning panel earlier this month despite a number of submissions citing concerns over traffic impacts.
Users will be able to access the centre via a new slip lane off Heathcote Rd and a driveway on Walder Rd.
The current facility and its sister centre at Wattle Grove service about 1400 patients per week, according to planning documents.
The report states the centre’s redevelopment would provide improved health services and community benefits.
“The proposal responds to the issue of reduced access to effective primary medical services for metropolitan fringe communities by providing additional community resources within the Hammondville Centre.”
