An agreement has been signed between Liverpool Council and a national construction company for works on the $400 million Liverpool Civic Place, which will start mid-next year.

The deal between the council and Built will see the two parties jointly develop the mixed-use precinct at 52 Scott St.

A master plan development application was lodged last week, proposing new council offices, council chambers, childcare facilities, a new city library, and a nine-level hotel or student accommodation.

The development will also feature a 24-storey tower with commercial, retail and education spaces.

Construction on stage one of the project is expected to start in mid-2020. Works are expected to be completed by mid-2022.

The council has committed $195 million to deliver the council assets which form part of the development, with Built covering the commercial costs of the remaining stages of the project.

All stages remain subject to further development application approval.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said the project was part of more than $1 billion worth of major mixed-use developments in the pipeline for Liverpool.

“It’s a great example of council leading activation of our own CBD using existing assets,” Cr Waller said.

“Council owns the land Liverpool Civic Place will be built on. Watch this space. We will be doing more great things with council land in our CBD in future.”

Built managing director Brett Mason said the company was proud to partner with Liverpool Council.

“We have been in open discussion with a number of potential tenants and partners interested in the mixed-use precinct,” Mr Mason said.

“This project offers great potential and flexibility for a number of uses which can take advantage of the unique location and activation of Liverpool Civic Place to cater for the growing commercial and education demands of Liverpool and southwest Sydney.”
