A southwest Sydney man has been denied bail after he singed a woman’s hair and threatened to burn down her home in a violent outburst.

Police allege Joshua Prakesh, 20, broke a window at the complainant’s address and intimidated her.

A southwest Sydney man allegedly choked and sexually touched a woman before he singed her hair and threatened to burn down her home, a court has heard.

Joshua Prakesh, 20, was charged with three counts of common assault, intentionally destroy property, intimidation, sexually touching and choking without consent during an altercation in April.

In documents tendered to Liverpool Local Court, police allege Prakesh broke a window at the woman’s address and intimidated her.

He is further alleged to have choked and sexually touched her without her consent.

Prakesh’s solicitor applied for bail at Liverpool Local Court on April 19, and Magistrate Imad Abdul-Karim said police would allege Prakesh placed his forearm over the complainant’s throat and held her down while she struggled underneath his body weight.

“The facts say it was hard for her to breathe and she started to panic,” Mr Abdul-Karim said.

“The offender also intimidated her by igniting a flame and allegedly saying ‘I will burn you and this whole house down’.”

The court also heard Prakesh, of Lurnea, allegedly singed a part of the victim’s hair during the incident – and that he was on parole for unrelated offences at the time it allegedly occurred.

Mr Abdul-Karim refused Prakesh’s bail as he determined he posed an “unacceptable risk of committing a further offence” and adjourned the matter to the Downing Centre Local Court on May 2.
