Goodtime Burgers puts eaters to test with 1kg Man versus Burger Challenge

THINK you’ve got what it takes to devour a 1kg burger? Goodtime Burgers has the Man versus Burger Challenge at its new Warwick Farm store and can’t wait to put someone in the hall of fame.

Goodtime Burgers comes to Sydney's south west

LIVERPOOL Leader editor Campbell Cooney gave the Goodtime Burgers Man versus Burger Challenge a crack on opening day, but pulled out at the halfway mark, claiming the burger had won.

Five patties, five American cheese slices plus pickles, sauce, lettuce, bacon, onion and tomato between a custom made Japanese milk bun.

If you can scoff down the 1kg burger in under eight minutes it’s free.

Goodtime Burgers has set up shop at the El Toro Hotel at Warwick Farm after only deciding to do it two months ago.

Having already opened at The Eastern in Bondi, the burger joint went from selling 200 burgers in week one, to 1800 burgers six weeks later.

“When we threw chef Anthony O’Shea in, he was reluctant. But we explained how creative the role is,” co-owner Liam Constantine said.

“He gets the credit for all the creation of burgers we have.

“The first burger we introduced was the royale with cheese — inspired from a scene in Pulp Fiction.”

Mr Constantine owned The White Revolver at Bondi, a nightclub where people needed a key to enter. It was accessible via a revolving door of an art gallery.

He also had The Canteen, an old American-style restaurant and bar based on rock and roll music.

It has Angus grass-fed beef, double American cheese, red onion and McClures pickles inside a custom made Japanese milk bun with their own special sauce that Mr Constantine claims is “similar to Big Mac sauce”.

Among the staff is Issac Martin who goes by the name issac — eatsalot on Instagram and has almost 30,000 followers.

He is a competitive eater and will be creating a #hack burger each week.

“He’ll be creating his own burger each week and sharing it with his followers.”

The Lord of the Rings is a creation Mr Constantine had his hand in.

“It was the first one that gave us the idea to build other creations,” he said.

“It’s now our bestseller.”

It has Wagyu beef, super crispy bacon (referred to as ‘crispy AF’), crumbed onion rings, McClures pickles, hot smoky barbecue sauce, American cheese with dude ranch sauce.

“We’re searching for the next Bar Luca ‘Blame Canada burger’,” he said.

“It has a 200 gram beef pattie, maple glazed streaky bacon, American cheese, poutine and maple aioli.”

If you’re not wanting to fork out $10 or $12 for a burger at the establishment, hang out on a Wednesday as they’ll have a $5 burger. The variety changes each week.

And if burgers aren’t your thing, there are the to-die-for mac and cheese balls or four varieties of loaded fries.

Mr Constantine said their mission statement was to provide a quality for an affordable price. To say hello to south west Sydney at their new digs, they handed out hundreds of free burgers to those who came along.

Where to find them

Goodtimes Burger has opened at El Toro Hotel, 6 Homepride Avenue, Warwick Farm.
