Detectives are at the scene of a Liverpool apartment block this morning following a fire that damaged four storeys of the building overnight.
Emergency services were called to the unoccupied building on Shepherd St shortly before 8.30pm to reports of a fire.
More than 70 NSW Fire and Rescue crews battled the blaze, which was extinguished shortly after midnight.
A NSW Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said crews were at the site this morning mopping up, adding firefighters were still extinguishing minor spot fires at 7.53am.
A crime scene has been established and officers from Liverpool LAC are investigating the incident.
It is not yet known if the fire was deliberately lit.
NSW Fire and Rescue’s south west duty commander Inspector Michael Carroll said crews initially had difficulties extinguishing the fire due to the lack of water pressure in the area.
To get water to the crews on the fire level, “we had to set up a relay system from roughly about a kilometre away that involved about eight fire crews,” Insp Carroll said.
“With the little water that they had, they did an excellent job in containing the fire.”
The building sustained only minor damage with only timber framework used for laying concrete affected.
