A shaken 7-Eleven worker is reeling after being bashed in the early hours of the morning by hooded thugs.

Police are hunting down a group of four men suspected of attacking the 23-year-old attendant at the store on King St, Newtown.

It is understood two of the men ran into the store about 5am, assaulted the store worker and stole money and cigarettes while the other two men waited in a car nearby before fleeing the scene.

Detectives have been told by the alleged victim he was pushed to the ground by the men and punched several times.

The young man sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene but did not need hospital treatment.

The store has been closed for the day after police established a crime scene on the busy inner west strip.

“He was visually shaken,” Inner West Police Area Command Acting Inspector Joshua Beaumont said.

“It’s totally unacceptable, preying on the victim in a convenience store was their MO in this.

“The level of violence, there’s no acceptable level of violence, but we’re quite pleased the worker only suffered minor injuries.”

Police have obtained footage from inside the store of the unprovoked attack and today are canvassing King St for more vision which may show where the group fled to.

It is understood the men were covering their faces at the time of the attack.
