A man’s lip was left hanging from his face in a brutal brawl after a boozy night at karaoke.

Jianing ‘Dean’ Huang armed himself with a knife as the bloody brawl moved from his apartment to a public lobby and then the elevator.

When the dust had settled multiple blows had been exchanged, Huang had bite marks on his shoulder and part of his lip was left hanging from his face, Burwood Local Court heard.

Huang had been at Empire Karaoke Bar in Burwood with friends back on April 6, 2019.

The party included two women unknown to Huang, his girlfriend and the man who he would brawl with a short time later.

The five went back to Huang’s unit in Opal Tower, Homebush and Huang’s girlfriend soon went to bed.

Huang and the other man, who were both drunk, vomited in the kitchen sink and the bathroom and Huang asked his guest to leave.

But deeply offended by the request, the man lashed out at Huang.

Being much larger than Huang, he quickly wrestled him to the ground and punched him, causing a cut under his eye.

He then also sunk his teeth into Huang’s shoulder.

Huang then grabbed a knife from the kitchen counter.

At this point the man left the apartment and Huang followed him to the lift “to make sure the victim left”, police facts read.

With Huang still holding the knife the man wrestled with him again, and in the process grabbed the blade, resulting in a 5cm long gash on his palm.

The pair moved through the public lobby and the man got into the lift as Huang waved the knife in the air and told him to leave.

Huang followed him into the lift but when he turned around to get out, the doors had already closed behind him.

In the lift, Huang slapped the man in the face with the knife several times and tapped his cheek with the flat part of the blade and warned him not to return.

When the doors opened on the ground floor Huang told him to leave before tossing the knife in the back of the lift.

It was then the man attacked Huang once more, wrestling him to the ground and sitting on top of him.

He punched Huang in the face multiple times, bit his lip – causing it to partially separate from his face – and spat on him.

Finally the man then left the building.

Both men visited hospital with their injuries and the following month Huang was arrested.

Huang pleaded guilty to the common assault charge and he was sentenced at Burwood Local Court last week.

Magistrate Alison Viney conceded Huang “was more the victim than the defendant in these actions” and recorded a conviction but issued Huang no further punishment.

“Never, never arm yourself with a knife,” Magistrate Viney’s told him as he was sentenced.
