A Marrickville development worth $129 million has been approved by a planning panel, despite almost 100 submissions from local residents who raised concerns.
The Danias family-owned project on the corner of Faversham St and Victoria Rd now has permission to call in the bulldozers and begin construction on the 272-unit proposal.
The Sydney East City Planning Panel yesterday approved the plans after Inner West Council recommended it go ahead.
The Danias family timber company is eyeing up projects worth $250 million in Marrickville and last year had
its plan for a $50 million arts hub in the suburb approved after a lengthy delay.
The business has a strong portfolio in Marrickville, with its latest vision for its multi-stage development on the land which will see 880 units in total if approved.
Danias is the largest landholder on the Victoria Rd precinct has spearheaded a development boom in the suburb since first flagging plans in 2017.
According to council documents lodged as part of the application, the majority of concerns from nearby locals centred around increased congestion from traffic and the availability of parking.
The application was set to be discussed at an Inner West Council meeting last month, but due to a lengthy backlog it was one of more than 20 items councillors did not get around to.
Councillors were to debate whether or not council was going to provide a submission itself with its recommendation, along with the 93 residents who had already done so.
