Among those to appear in court on Thursday were James Calleja, of Bonnyrigg, who is alleged to have directed the criminal group.

The 34-year-old appeared by videolink in Campbelltown Local Court.

The hotspot of where the alleged drug deals took place was Ikea in Tempe, with Calleja accused of having supplied, or agreed to supply, drugs on 11 occasions.

The day before the police operation, it’s alleged the Bonnyrigg man had agreed to sell six vials of LSD for $6000 with the deal to take place at the Ikea in Tempe.

He has also been charged with supplying MDMA at Campbelltown Mall.

Madyson Brooks, 23, who also appeared, is alleged to have been a member of the drug ring and was charged with supplying MDMA.

Matthew Worth, 25, sat in silence in the dock when he appeared at Sutherland Local Court.

The Berala man was charged with three counts of indictable prohibited drug supply related to 52.5g of MDMA, 153g of GBL and 0.016g of acid he allegedly dealt between August 11 last year and Wednesday.

Police also charged him with possessing the property proceeds of crime after they allegedly found him in possession of $820 cash during his arrest.

Worth’s Legal Aid solicitor offered up a $1000 security for his release to live at the family home and observe a curfew and reporting condition, but Magistrate Les Mabbutt was not satisfied.

“This is a difficult bail decision, because he has never been in trouble before,” Mr Mabbutt said.

“The allegations date back to August last year until a few days ago, that he was dealing three different types of drugs and police allege he was an important component in that drug supply chain and took over control when one of the others left the state.”

Mr Mabbutt refused Worth’s bail as his mother burst into tears in court.

A police prosecutor told the court the case was strong and would rely on thousands of intercepted phone calls and text messages.

“Given the thousands of messages he could spend a considerable amount of time in custody (before a hearing),” Mr Mabbutt said.

“He has strong community ties but one can only view these offences as extremely serious and if convicted he does face the risk of a lengthy custodial sentence – I simply cannot come to the view that any bail conditions could address the risk of further offending.”

Worth will return to court in April.

Alex Dubov, 22, appeared on 10 charges of supply prohibited drug at Newcastle Local Court. Four of the charges were for supplying a commercial quantity with another three supplying a large commercial quantity.
