Police have confirmed an attempted kidnapping in Drummoyne last Friday afternoon is linked to a kidnapping and assault in St Marys last November.
Grant Taylor, acting commander of the robbery and serious crime squads, told a press conference on Wednesday afternoon two men, a Mt Prichard man, 40, and a Luddenham man, 39, had been arrested and four properties had been searched.
“In the early hours of this morning, with the assistance of Strike Force Raptor and the Public Order and Riot Squad, detectives affected the arrest of two men who are currently in police custody,” he said.
“We then searched four properties: one at Mt Pritchard, one at Bungarribee, one at St Marys, and one at Luddenham.
“We found a number of items we are forensically examining, as well as two handguns.”
Detective Acting Superintendent Taylor said the two arrested men would be spoken to regarding both the Drummoyne and St Marys incidents.
Police said a 52-year-old man was allegedly the victim of an attempted abduction after a car accident on Victoria Rd, Drummoyne at about 4.40pm last Friday afternoon.
They said two men attempted to force the man into a Toyota Hilux following a crash on Victoria Rd.
The alleged victim was able to escape before the two men fled on foot.
“We believe the incident was planned over a number of days, and there was a staged car accident,” Detective Acting Superintendent Taylor said.
“It appears the perpetrators ran into the victim’s vehicle, no doubt to have him pull over and get out of his car.
“We’ve determined that event and the event in November are linked by the same perpetrators.”
He said more arrests are expected.
“Investigations into these kidnappings are continuing, and we expect to make further arrests shortly,” he said.
“We’re also confident we’re making significant inroads to who is responsible for these kidnappings and who may have orchestrated them.”
