Canterbury IED: Massimo Lombardo, Jeremy Nguyen back in court
An apprentice plumber allegedly involved in the planting of an IED at a woman’s home will head to the Supreme Court as he tries to secure bail. It comes as a number of the eight arrested have been back before the courts with more alleged detailed being revealed.

An apprentice plumber allegedly connected to the explosion of an IED that left a woman with serious burns to her body in Sydney’s inner west will be making an application to be released back in the community as eight co-accused face court.
A group of nine are before the courts for their alleged connection to the detonation of an IED (Improved Explosive Device) made of sparklers, aerosol cans and thumb tacks at a home in Canterbury on June 8.
As a result of the blast an innocent homeowner Denise Lavell suffered serious burns to her face, hands, chest and legs.
Massimo Lombardo, 18, from Croydon Park, was charged with causing an explosive to explode with the intent to burn, injure or cause harm to a person.
Lombardo was allegedly one in a group who caused “butane canisters, sparklers and thumbtacks” to explode with the intent to burn and maim Ms Lavell, according to police claims made in court documents.
Lombardo has now made a fresh bail application after being refused last month.

Lombardo will front the Supreme Court on Monday for his bail application.
Both his matters will return to the same court on October 8.
Among the others arrested is Zhane Thompson, 19, from Concord who is also charged with causing an explosive to explode with the intent to burn, injure or cause harm.
Thompson is on bail and will face Burwood Local Court on October 7.
Macquarie University student Joshua Lowe, 19, from Malabar, faces six charges including taking part in a criminal group, multiple drugs charges and allegedly contributing to the criminal act at Canterbury.
According to police facts, he allegedly took part in the supply of 320g of cannabis, 24g of MDMA, 19g of cocaine and possessing a pill encapsulator for the making of MDMA between June 8 and August 11 in Zetland.
Lowe’s matter will return to Burwood Local Court on September 9.
Jeremy Nguyen, 18, from Wattle Grove, was slapped with five drugs related charges including knowingly taking part in the supply of 320g of cannabis, 18g of cocaine and 24g of MDMA and contributing to a criminal group.
Nguyen, who is in custody, faced Central Local Court last week for a brief mention.
He will return to the same court for his hearing on September 8.
Nicholas Sguras, 20, from Zetland was charged with seven counts including causing an explosive to explode with intent to harm, taking part in the supply of cannabis and cocaine and possessing a pill encapsulator for the production of MDMA.
He is in custody and will face Central Local Court on October 8.
Patrick Ahn, 19, from Yagoona, was also charged with causing an explosive to explode with intent to cause harm and not giving police a driver or passenger’s identity while in a car was also refused bail to return to Bankstown Court on October 8.
Moses Succar, 19, from Punchbowl, an 18-year-old from Campsie and a 17-year-old from Zetland, who can’t be named, are still before the courts.
