A man’s body found on the rocks of Goat Island has been identified as Iranian national Ali Sarvari.

The 36-year-old’s body washed up on the heritage-listed island west of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in October.

Officers from the Marine Area Command were called to the island about 6pm on October 6 after receiving reports of a body.

A post-mortem examination has now confirmed the body was that of Mr Sarvari. At this point, his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Police are appealing for public assistance with Marine Area Command investigators forming Strike Force Mulubina to look into the movements of Mr Sarvari before his death.

Mr Sarvari was last seen in Parramatta’s CBD, near Church and Macquarie streets, on September 29.

In the days after, it is believed he travelled on public transport to the Sydney Opera House to see friends.

Marine Area Command crime manager Detective Acting Inspector Bryce Watson said investigators hadn’t been able to piece together Mr Sarvari’s final movements.

“Ali Sarvari was a much-loved son, brother and friend, and our investigators want to find answers to provide closure to his loved ones,” he said.

“While his death is not believed to be suspicious, it is difficult for his family and friends to grieve without knowing how he came to be on Goat Island.

“We believe that there are people in the community who saw Mr Sarvari prior to his death, and we strongly encourage them to come forward.”

Mr Sarvari’s social media reveals images of his life in Sydney from photographs at the beach to the heart of the city.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
