Padstow Heights: L-plater charged over alleged police pursuit after two car crash on Davies Rd

An L-plate driver who allegedly led police on a pursuit across southern Sydney before crashing into a concrete barrier and another car, has been charged.

An L-plate driver allegedly led police on a pursuit across southern Sydney before crashing into a concrete barrier, traffic light and another car.

Police allege they detected the 22-year-old Sefton man speeding in a Honda Accord sedan about 3pm on Monday while they were patrolling Alfords Point Rd, Sutherland.

When his vehicle allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

A short time later, the Honda crashed into a concrete barrier, traffic light, and another car – a Volkswagen SUV – on the off-ramp at Davies Rd, near Clancy St, at Padstow Heights.

The passenger of the Honda, believed to also be aged in his 20s, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Bankstown Hospital.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a man aged in his 30s, was also taken to Liverpool Hospital with minor injuries.

The 22-year-old driver was arrested at the scene and taken to Sutherland Police Station.

He has been charged with exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 km/h, engaging in a police pursuit, driving recklessly and negligent driving.

He was also charged with driving unaccompanied as a learner driver, not displaying “L” plates and driving in a car not complying with tyre standards. His learner licence has since been suspended.

The man was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Sutherland Local Court on January 19.
