Nowra man Zac Blacker charged with stabbing Jay McDonald in Warrawong

A young Nowra man has been charged with knifing a man he knew in a Warrawong apartment.

A 27-year-old man was rushed to Wollongong Hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning after an alleged physical altercation at Warrawong left him with multiple stab wounds.

Lake Illawarra Command police attended a unit on Cowper St, Warrawong, about 12.40am after a fight allegedly occurred between Jay McDonald, and 22-year-old Zac James Blacker.

Mr McDonald was allegedly kicked in the face by Mr Blacker, before being stabbed several times in the abdomen and upper left leg, before the accused fled the scene.

It is understood the two men knew each other.

Paramedics treated Mr McDonald, who was taken to Wollongong Hospital in a stable condition. He was charged with an unrelated matter regarding and outstanding warrant. He was refused bail in Wollongong Local Court on Thursday.

Police, with the assistance of the Dog Unit, scoured the area before allegedly finding Blacker hiding in bushes nearby.

Mr Blacker, of Nowra, was taken to Lake Illawarra police station where he was charged with wounding a person with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He appeared briefly in Wollongong Local Court on Thursday but he did not apply for bail. He will return to court on March 30.
