Imants Kamergravziz: Victorian man charged after police pursuit through North Nowra, Kiama

A 60-year-old man accused of leading police on a chase from Kiama and North Nowra where he reversed into multiple police cars before ultimately being stopped by road spikes, has faced court.

Imants Kamergravziz, from Victoria, appeared briefly in Wollongong Local Court, where he did not apply for bail after being charged with instigating a police pursuit while driving dangerously and not stopping when directed to do so.

About 12.30am on Wednesday, officers attached to the South Coast Police District attempted to stop a Peugeot travelling along the M1 Motorway at Kiama.

When the vehicle allegedly failed to stop, a police pursuit was initiated.

The Peugeot continued to Bolong Rd before turning around and continuing north along the M1.

The vehicle then slowed down near Boxells Ln, Meroo, outside Nowra, where the driver allegedly reversed into a police vehicle before continuing to Devits Rd, Foxground.

The man led police on a chase from Kiama to North Nowra.

The vehicle stopped and again allegedly reversed into a police vehicle before driving off.

The pursuit continued and road spikes were successfully deployed at Tabbita Rd, Dunmore, with the vehicle stopping north of the Shellharbour Rd interchange.

Kamergravziz was arrested, taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged.

The man will appear in Nowra Local Court later this week after he undergoes a mental health assessment.
