Bulli: Signs posted at Sandon Point Beach telling non-locals to go away

A war has erupted over the ownership of a pristine, perfect surfing location in the Illawarra, after signage was erected informing ‘blow-ins’ to stay away.

A war has erupted over the ownership of a pristine, perfect surfing location on the state’s south, after signage was erected informing ‘blow-ins’ to stay away.

“Locals only – Blow-ins not welcome” are the harsh words plastered over one the signs overlooking the waves at Sandon Point Beach, near Bulli, with Michael Hallum noting the coastal town needed to stay “inclusive”.

“We took offence and wanted to remove it,” Mr Hallum said, posting a picture of the sign to Facebook.

“We feel the beach, surf, water is for all to enjoy regardless of where you live in Australia. We need to be inclusive and tolerant so we can all enjoy the natural beauty of the Illawarra (region).”

The multiple signs have found their way to the beach due to regular, local surfers becoming fed up with people travelling from Sydney to surf the Sandon Point waves.

The signs have been posted by locals who are sick of Sydney-siders travelling to the area.

Other signs posted at the beach include messages as “Locals only – f**k off blow ins”, and “No blow-ins”.

More Sandon Point Beach users have taken to social media to give their reactions and opinions on the war-of-words, noting they were against the signs.

“I hope those who posted them never go on holidays to other locations,” Emma Lee said.

“It’s very rude, entitled and unwelcoming.”

Keira MP Ryan Park, has called out the signage, saying “the only thing not welcome in our community is this sort of behaviour”.
