Allan Simpson faces Wollongong court on traffic, theft offences
Allan Simpson was taken into police custody on Monday afternoon and charged with several driving and stealing offences.
A 45-year-old man remains behind bars after allegedly leading police on a pursuit through the streets of Flinders on Monday afternoon.
Allan Simpson was taken into police custody yesterday afternoon and charged with several driving and stealing offences.
About 11:25am on Monday, police from the Southern Region Traffic Group were patrolling in Flinders as a part of an investigation into a number of stealing and traffic offences, when they attempted to stop a Nissan Pathfinder, allegedly driven by Simpson, that was travelling south on Jindabyne Road.
When Simpson did not stop, a pursuit allegedly began, but was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.
Acting on information from the public, police found the Pathfinder parked on Whittaker
Street, Flinders.
Highway patrol officers, with the assistance of officers from the Lake Illawarra Police District and the Dog Unit, found Simpson a short distance away from the car and arrested him.
As a result, Simpson was charged with police pursuit — not stop — drive dangerously, three counts of drive motor vehicle on road during disqualification period, three counts of larceny, shoplifting and owner not disclose identity of driver.
Simpson made a brief appearance at Wollongong Local Court in front of Magistrate Susan McGowan on Tuesday. He did not apply for bail and will remain in custody until a further appearance next week.
