An additional $65 million worth of funding has been secured for the stage two redevelopment Hornsby Hospital.

The extra funding, which comes following the NSW Government budgeted $200 million fund for the redevelopment of the hospital, will see the fit out of rehabilitation inpatient units, refurbishment and increased capacity of the Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre.

It will also include the expansion of ambulatory care services — including a new renal dialysis service, chemotherapy day services, and oral health services, the consolidation of community health services into a modern, integrated centre and a new Helipad for the hospital.

Hornsby state Liberal MP Matt Kean announced the extra funding for the redevelopment alongside NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard.

Mr Kean said the funding boost for Stage two of the upgrade, which is already delivering a new Emergency Department and medical inpatient units in a new clinical services tower, will further improve the health care of patients in the growing Hornsby area.

“This further upgrade will enable the fantastic Hornsby Hospital staff to continue to deliver world-class health care in modern facilities,” Mr Kean said.

“It will include a range of new ambulatory care services such as renal dialysis and chemotherapy, enabling people to be treated closer to home, as well as a range of other expanded services.”

Hornsby Hospital senior surgeon Dr Richard Harris said the new services provided by extra funding will change the lives of patients.

“The State Government has definitely delivered for the people of Hornsby when it comes to the Hospital,” he said.

“They have delivered with funding — we started off with a very difficult set of circumstances when the Hornsby Hospital redevelopment was first proposed, so it was great to get this over the line.

“This funding will provide crucial services at Hornsby — we have had people being forced to travel to Royal North Shore for dialysis and treatment for a range of medical issues, so having all of these outpatient services available here is a big thing for patients.”

Dr Harris said clinicians and the State Government worked to select upgrades for services with the greatest needs for the community in mind.

“Stage two will highlight the needs of ICU and emergency departments and now we have extra funding for these incredible new outpatient units,” he said.
