CROOKED TAILOR

Castle Hill’s favourite small bar is the place to be for burgers on Sunday afternoons with its ‘Pimp My Burger’ sessions. Diners can ‘hack’ their burger to make their own epic creations during Sunday’s ‘Pimp My Burger’ session. Start by choosing one of five burgers from the menu and then add the delicious and sometimes outright crazy ‘hacks’ — from buttermilk fried chicken to pulled pork, Mac ‘n’ cheese, hash browns and eggs. Try the DBL Cheeseburger hacked with maple bacon, fried chicken, mac ‘n’ cheese and an egg for a burger experience like no other. Prices start from $13.

EL BURGER

The American-style diner has an extensive menu of gourmet burgers, including regular specials. The El Burger ($9.90) namesake is a classic and hits all the right notes with a thick beef patty, sweet caramelised onion, American cheese and fresh tomato, lettuce, pickles topped off with the addictive house El Sauce. Try it with added bacon for the ultimate burger combination.

The Bella Shack serves up huge burgers in the outdoor area of the Bella Vista Hotel on Fridays-Sundays with plenty of choices as well as weekly specials. The Bella Big Boy ($18) is a whopper of a burger with a house-ground beef patty topped with smoked bacon, double American cheese, Bella secret sauce, Westmont pickles, Spanish onion, tomato and oak lettuce on a toasted Japanese milk bun.

WOLFE & CO

Wolfe & Co’s signature gourmet flair shines through in their burgers, including the classic The Wolfe Burger ($16.50), with a house-minced patty, cheese, Zuni pickle, tomato, butter leaf, eschalot, mustard, tomato and ketchup served on a milk bun with fries. Locals rave about the burgers from Glenhaven hotspot The Tuckshop, while others travel from miles away to try them. With two beef patties plus pickles, cheese, onions, sweet mustard and ketchup, the Double Cheeseburger served with old bay fries ($15) will certainly satisfy.

PIRATES GRILL

Pirate Pete has been flipping burgers for almost 40 years and makes them the traditional way. The signature Pirate burger is a classic Australian-style hamburger with the lot — an Angus beef patty with bacon, egg, grilled tomato, cheese, lettuce, tomato, beetroot, grilled onion and barbecue sauce. At only $10, it’s delicious and excellent value.

XPRESS CAFE

Tucked away on Victoria Ave in Castle Hill is the Xpress Cafe food truck serving up delicious burgers and Campos coffee with friendly service. The signature Xpress Burger ($14) has an all-beef patty with egg, bacon, American cheese, tomato, onion and aioli, served with chips. The mighty burger is so large it can easily be shared among two people.
