Castle Hill Women’s Bowling Club has had its most successful season in eight years after claiming three Mitchell District Pennants flags.

The last time the club topped this haul was when it wrote its place in the history books back in 2011, taking out all four flags for the first time in the history of the district competition.

Castle Hill almost equalled that extraordinary feat this year by coming away with flags in grades two, three and four.

The club celebrated its wins with a special Flag Unfurling Day last month where the victorious teams were awarded their flags by Mitchell District president Jan Whittington.

Castle Hill Women’s Bowling Club’s communications officer Di Creed said that is was a sensational achievement to win just one flag — let alone three.

“Three wins is an exceptional result,” Ms Creed said.

“Congratulations must go to the selectors who put together the teams and thanks to our men’s club who gave the women some challenging practice games.

“Castle Hill has the reputation of being ‘the friendly club’ and has attracted a number of new members who have added to our depth of experience and bowling prowess.

“(Since 2011), we have won single flags and have been extremely proud of each win, so this year, we are all bursting with pride.”

The ladies have now qualified for next month’s state finals at Kingscliff.

After compounding their success with a victory at the regional playoffs at Carlingford in May, Castle Hill is now turning it’s attention to next month’s state playoffs in Kingscliff.

Ms Creed said the club was looking forward to the challenge.

“While we go to Kingscliff to do our best, we are not oblivious to the fact that we will be challenged by larger and more experienced clubs,” Ms Creed said.

“We have some players in our teams who are first-time flag winners and this will be a wonderful challenge and experience for them.”

The 2019 NSW Pennant Finals will be at Kingscliff Beach Bowls Club from August 14 until August 18.
