Discus star Sally Shokry has spent most of her childhood working towards representing her country.
After accomplishing it at last year’s Youth Olympic Games, the 17-year-old, from Kellyville, isn’t planning on relinquishing the green and gold anytime soon.
Sally has been recording podium finishes at international, national and state level. She said being a part of Australia’s Youth Olympics squad was a dream come true.
“It was awesome, overwhelming and nerve-racking all at the same time as it was a new environment and a new setting,” she said.
“I’ve made the Australian team for the Oceania Regional Championships (and) I hope to make the national team for the World Junior Championships in Nairobi next year. My ultimate sporting goal is making the Australian team for the Olympic Games.”
Sally is the Hills Shire Times’ latest nominee for the 2019 Local Sports Stars awards, which are proudly sponsored by Featherdale Wildlife Park and Bankstown Sports.
