More child care centres are in the works for Sydney’s northwest, with the most recent application targeting a fast growing suburb.
Developer Boundary Road Nominees Pty Ltd has lodged an application to build a child care centre at 2 Thorpe Way, Box Hill.
A planning report, by Think Planners on behalf of the developer, outlines the plan to build a child care centre in order to take “advantage of demand in the area”.
“Given the anticipated residential population increase within Box Hill over the next 5 – 10 years,” the report states.
“The surrounding locality is currently undergoing significant redevelopment from semirural residential towards contemporary low density residential, as evident with the recent residential subdivision and subsequent construction of dwelling housing within the immediate vicinity of the development site.
“As such the current child care facility is not only seeking to utilise the land in accordance with its zoning but aims to deliver a contemporary single storey building within a landscape setting that will not only address its frontages but will be consistent with the anticipated low density residential character within the immediate locality.”
The proposal is to build a one to two-storey child care centre to accommodate a maximum 96 children and basement parking for 33 vehicles.
There will there will be five indoor play rooms, two outdoor play areas, reception, kitchen, laundry and a staffroom.
An additional outdoor play room will be restricted to the 3-6-year-olds.
There will be 16 places available for the 0-2 age group, with 80 spots divided in half for children aged between two and six.
The child care centre will run from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday, with a total of 16 educators expected to be employed.
The report also points out the design choices for the facility are aiming to be as inclusive as possible.
“The proposed learning spaces provide a good mix of inclusive learning space for all students,” it states.
