A new primary school has been slated for one of northwest Sydney’s youngest suburbs, as the demand for more educational facilities continues to grow.

The Department of Education is planning to build a new primary school and on-site preschool on a large, empty plot along Fontana Drive, Gables.

Gables was gazetted in 2020, located between Box Hill and Maraylya in the Hills region.

A scoping report, conducted by Ethos Urban on behalf of the department, outlines the plan to construct school buildings which include two three-storey learning hubs, a single-storey school hall and a one storey administration and library building.

Plans also include a sports court and fields, along with a preschool.

The proposal for the school is in response to the “need for a new primary school to provide contemporary education facilities” for the area, according to the report.

The maximum number of students for both the primary school and the preschool have not been revealed in the documents.

“The proposal’s objectives include (meeting) the growth in educational demand in Gables and the broader North West Growth Area in an effective and sustainable manner,” the report states.

The report states the aim if the preschool is to help “support families and their children with the transition from preschool to school”.

The area, formerly known as the Box Hill North Precinct, has seen rapid growth transforming from “former rural lands into a new urban neighbourhood”.

The latest plans are in line with the Box Hill North Masterplan, which included construction of the Santa Sophia Catholic College, a future sporting field, an 80-student educational establishment for children with autism, and a childcare centre for 130 kids.
